New Tunes

Some really cool new tunes I found, definitely worth checking out. I saw Pretty Lights recently and it was a really good show, definitely one of the few electronic artists out there who has a clear and distinctive new sound. His other stuff is definitely worth checking out as well. The single by Monarchy has been stuck in my head for a few days, and while I was unimpressed by what little I had heard of Fuck Buttons until recently, this track completely turned me. Enjoy.

Party Tunes for Saturday

Its Saturday, so here are some beats for dancing the weekend away...

Justice - DVNO (LA Riots Remix)
Justice need no introduction, but LA Riots have been catching my ear for a while and this remix is no different.

Major Lazer - Pon de Floor (Laidback Luke Mix)
Great track, better remix. Laidback Luke has some other great mixes too, definitely someone I'd like to see.

Burns - First Move (Fred Falke Mix)
Fred Falke is yet another German who knows his shit as far as it comes to making great mixes (like this Pryda one). Don't know too much about Burns but I like what I've heard and he is touring North America as Deadmau5's opening act this fall.

Also worth checking out -
Sharooz  - Adrenalize
Boys Noize - Jeffer (Para One Remix)

Good Indie

I have come across some good indie bands in the past few days - here are links to a few songs worth checking out.

Phoenix - 1901
You've probably heard the hype around French rockers Phoenix, and its not without cause. Reminds me a little bit of the Strokes, good new music.

Neon Indian - Deadbeat Summer
Another very new and cool band out of Brooklyn - this song is very catchy and judging by what I have heard/seen, I think they will get big pretty soon.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Always Like This
Not very new, but very indie and I just came across them. A little bit hypnotic - like listening to someone dream.

Ninja Tune!

Isn't that a great word for a music genre?

Ninja tune, which lies somewhere between trip-hop and acid jazz, is the moniker that UK DJ Mr. Scruff uses to describe his music - which is, by the way, brilliant.

That video says it all, and pretty much everything by him is super chill - good beats and cool videos. Here's links to a few of my favorites -

>Mr. Scruff - Come On Grandad
Mr. Scruff & Quantic - It's Dancing Time
Mr. Scruff -Jazz Potato
Mr. Scruff - Chicken in a Box

According to his Last FM, Mr. Scruff is known for playing marathon sets (often exceeding six hours), his eclectic musical taste, his love of a “nice cup of tea” and the quirky home-produced visuals and animations that are projected on large screens during his gigs. Enough said, what a legend.

Introduction?

Too much bad music out there (the world at large). Too much good music in here (my head). Time to change that. Here's five tunes you should check out to start things off - kind of a preview for the kind of stuff I will probably be posting here.

Junkie XL & Sasha - Breezer
Junkie XL = Legend. Sasha = Another legend. You can put two and two together. Great track, infectious without being too hard or heavy. Not that there's anything wrong with hard & heavy.

Sharooz - Get Off
Like I said, nothing wrong with hard & heavy, as Sharooz proves on this track.  It's hard to get this beat out of your head, this guy is going to be huge. Also check out the Miles Dyson remix for a brilliant minimal version of the song.

A.Skillz & Krafty Kuts - Ain't It Funky
Great tune that grows on you, the title says it all.

The Whip - Divebomb (Crystal Castles Remix)
The Whip have exploded in a big way since I saw them last year - definitely one of my favourite new indie/electronic acts. Crystal Castles have done a great job as usual on this mix, and I still can't decide whether I like it better than the original (which, by the way, has an awesome video).

Parov Stelar - Lost in Amsterdam
Didn't know too much about this guy until I stumbled upon some stuff a few weeks ago, but I've been hooked since. Very chill, very downtempo, and interesting fusion of a lot of different styles - definitely worth checking out.
